Overview

The Systems Administrator (SA) is responsible for operations and maintenance of systems and related infrastructure. This individual will work closely with other team members and will help IT in meeting its goals and objectives. Must be a team player who fosters group collaboration in order to achieve exceptional results. A highly organized individual with good task management and follow-up skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Help transform the IT organization by assisting in the development of a new virtualized environment and by migrating physical systems into consolidated virtual servers.
Configure systems in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements and according to IT guidelines.
Ensure systems and operating systems are running at peak performance by continuously applying patches and maintaining up-to-date software versions.
Assist in proactive monitoring of systems using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLAs.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
Perform regular data archiving according to retention policies.
Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Repair and recover system failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging server tools and technologies.
Assist in research and evaluation of system technologies to support business requirements.

Required Skill Sets:

Strong Microsoft systems background (MCSE +)

Solid understanding of network protocols

Experience with HP servers, tools and utilities

Active Directory - Management, User Security Groups, Organization Units, Group Policies, Sites, DNS

VMware Management – VMware Infrastructure, Virtual Center, templates and customizations

Operating Systems – Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Microsoft clustering, Network load balancing

7.


Managing backups with enterprise backup solutions

8.


Exchange Management in a mixed environment (2007 and 2003), Exchange clustering

9.


Terminal Server Management – Terminal Services 2008 +, server farms, RemoteApp, TS Gateway +

10.


Hands on experience with IIS 6 and 7

11.


Understanding of SSL, certificate services, and associated concepts
